Horseback Riding in the "Valle of Uspallata" and High Mountain Range

The "Valle of Uspallata" is a small town, and an administrative district, in Argentina in a scenic location on the road which crosses the Andes between Mendoza and Santiago in Chile. It is located about 100 kilometers west of Mendoza and was once served by the now disused Transandine Railway which passed through the town on its way from Mendoza to Los Andes in Chile.

Trekking in Aconcagua Provincial Park and Puente del Inca:
The Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Andes, with 6,962 meters above sea level. This mountain is the principal reason for the existence of the Aconcagua Park, one of the most spectacular protected areas of Argentina.
It has 71,000 hectares and is entirely in Argentina, Province of Mendoza. It is not an international border.

Puente del Inca:
It is 175 km away from the city of Mendoza, on the international route n°7. "Puente del Inca" or Inca's Bridge is a natural formation (a bridge) over Cuevas River.
There are thermal springs that flow at 35°, which have acquired worldwide prestige since the thermal baths have curative properties for skin infectious diseases.
The ruins of an ancient hotel remain near the bridge; it operated as a thermal resort last century. Nowadays it is possible to visit the ancient thermal baths and to enjoy bathing in those hot and comforting waters.

Day 1: Horseback riding
Departure from Mendoza in private vehicle to Uspallata Valley. Arrival at a ranch where muleteers and horses are waiting for you ready to leave. Beginning of one of the most exiting experiences the Andes can offer you. We climb up paths and huge mountains on horseback. Arrival at the camp in the evening. Campfire, "asado" (Argentinean barbecue). Lodging in igloo tents.
Asado = charcoal-grilled bovine´s meat

Day 2: Horseback riding
Enlistment of the mounts and disarmament of the camp which will be
transported by mules. The horseback ride penetrates into the heart of the mountains, throughout huge mountains over 3,000meters: We reach the next camp. Once the tents are pitched we collect some dry firewood for the bonfire while the guide prepares a comforting dinner.

Day 3: Horseback riding
After breakfast we continue this great adventure on horseback. We have lunch during the ride then we continue towards next campsite. Campfire and dinner: local charcoal-grilled "asado".

Day 4: Horseback riding
Today will be our last day on horseback. We arrive in the Uspallata´s Valley where lunch will be waiting for us. Lodging in a Hostel in the middle of the mountain. ("Hostel International Uspallata")

Day 5: Trekking in Aconcagua
Transport from the hotel to Puente del Inca. It is 2,750mts a.s.l.

After visiting the bridge we start trekking in the Aconcagua Park, walking near Horcones River Gully. From there, we will be able to watch the imposing south face of the Aconcagua, depending on the weather.

The difficulty of this trekking varies depending on the members of the group. It can be gentle and slow or something more demanding. We walk 3 or 6 hs approx (including the breaks).

In the evening we return to Penitentes and come back to Mendoza.
